Rodriguo Pessoa's star horse has just started a well-deserved retirement... He's 19 and will only perform as sire from now on.
Have a long and happy life, Baloubet !

Gorgeous Baloubet! He so deserves a well earned rest. I love that horse's spirit and passion for jumping, there is no SJ stallion that comes close!

Indeed....i remember watching (and admiring!) his sire Malesan Galoubet back in the 80's. He must have been one of the first high-profile jumping stallions i guess

How weird is this? We were actually going to ask Forum members tonight what they knew about this stallion and his son Balou du Rouet? We've googled in and read about both father and son, but just wanted to know if anyone on here had progeny by Balou? We've just been offered a 4 year old of his to bring on, having just been broken in and wondered what members thought of the stock. Any useful information would be much appreciated as we hope to start work on him very soon and get him out competing hopefully around Easter time. At the same time, can I also ask something else - we've got contacts in Denmark, Belgium and Germany all telling us to go over and buy SJ youngsters from them. The thing is, what bloodlines are the "in-thing" at the moment? We've been out of SJ for a number of years, but have just got back into it and need to get updated on what stock to go for.

I know a few people with Balou babies..... very nice but sometimes can have very slightly boxy feet on the front.

I would also try and go for Corland and Burgraaf if possible.

Baloubet du Rouet is Ellie's cousin, LOL! I've always admired him...I think my top three SJers have to be him, Calvaro (Willi Melliger's grey, not the one John Whitaker rode) and Goldfever. Oooops, I forgot Liscalgot.....

I have a foal by balou du rouet she is amazing i love her !!!

researched very hard about the stallions and chose his son instead of baloubet as he is a bit sharper (and my mare is really sharp) !!

Thanks so much for the responses, really appreciate it. If anyone knows anymore or can give any more suggestions of what bloodlines to go for whilst I'm in Germany, Denmark, Belgium and Holland, do let me know.

depends what you are trying to achieve to buy ???

We had a fabulous son of Baloubet du Rouet which we have sold to robert Smith. A superb jumper but could be a little quirky and a complete b***** in the collecting ring whilst being held.

Hopefully unbroken 3 year olds. A number of people have expressed an interest is us keeping an eye out for them whilst we're looking for ourselves.
