The ban in her case was right for untreated laminitis and continued overfeeding over 3 years after getting advice from authorities. The lack of a ban for Greenhaigh was a travesty and imo, a total mistake by a district judge.

There is standardisation, as far as it's possible. The problem I think was a district judge who was not horse aware and/or a very skilled defence lawyer. I think the outcome might have been very different with a panel of 3 magistrates, especially if one or more of them knew about horses.

I agree when I saw this the first thing I thought of was the KG case and how she managed to get away with no ban when horses died in her care and she was a professional so should have known better.

I wonder if the sentence for KG can be appealed and someone can say really she should have had a three year ban at least like this lady. I know KG got a suspended sentence so will now have a criminal record but she should have had a ban too.

anyone seen this story on H&H?

The ban she was given... compared to what Kate Greenhalgh basically got away with... seems all out of kilter to me.

I mean, I know equine obesity is a problem, and this horse was an extreme case, but isn't there a need for some more standardised kind of penalties?

The poor horse must have been in extreme pain and for so long. I'm glad to see the owner received such a ban.
He looks fantastic after his diet!
I dont think equine obesity is taken seriously enough. Neglect is neglect.

As for Kate Greenhalgh - her lack of a ban is absolutely disgusting.

This really does cut deep.

People like that allow this suffering, yet I tried everything in my power to keep mine healthy and was still unlucky to get ill and didn’t get the happy ending this chap did.

Some people really get my back up, I’m glad they’ve been banned and he is now looking fabulous!

There's a cob at my yard that is this fat! How he hasn't got laminitis is a miracle!
And the bloody woman hand grazes him to give him extra grass plus feeds him!!

There’s a few horses in my yard more than 100kgs overweight. One ended up with Laminitis and they’ve been trying to strip the weight off it ever since, the others I don’t know how they don’t have laminitis but trying to say anything goes over their head I’ve been told, so when you see things like this then the KG thing I just throw my hands up and shake my head as what can you really do? There’s no consistency or pattern or even guidance by the looks of it for judges to hand out sentencing.
