Ban increase for Christian Alhemain

The ban for Germany's christian Alhermain has been increased to eight months. He has already left Arezzo where he was supposed to jump in the champions league. He has to serve another two months i believe.
what was someone saying recently about one rule for everyone.......

one of those apparently using a banned substance at the olympics. all the showjumpers tested for the same substance in pretty much the same amount but the ban has been different for each and tony andre hansens case still ongoing.
 
I guess the thing to come out of this is........... dont f**k with the German Federation!! Poor bloke, think it was a harsh that his own federation chose to pursue things with the CAS. Would you ever want to ride representing that federation again?? Surely not.
 
the talk here is that he has been really unfairly treated by the federation and surely CAS cannot back up this one and let the others go? How will that work. what a mess and as one olympic showjumper said to me recently would the same treatment have been meeted out to Luger for example.
I dont think the rider had any idea what was coming. he was trotting round on said coster yesterday and it was declared to start today, just didnt appear.
personally think he has been a bit of a scaegoat myself.
 
I agree Lucretia. The Germans had a shocking olympics and I believe to retain their funding and pride of place within the Olympic movement in Germany they had to be seen to act.
I understand that the German fed stands by the fact that they want a clean sport but why didnt they appeal the decision of Rene Tebbels' and pursue a harsher sentence in that instance
 
This ban will end 20th April 2009, he just has to return price-money etc. won after Hong Kong (i.e. since 20th December). It is one rule for all, if the other national federations turn their cases to the CAS as well - which they will not, of course.
It’s certainly a mixture of reasons the German FN did – they had the contracts signed by the riders prior to HK not to apply anything to their horses on their own - because they did have the Beerbaum 2004 experience - so they had the legal means to do so. Ahlmann was a really(!) big story in Germany, Tebbel e.g. never made it outside the horsey world, Ahlmann the only (caught) German doper at the Olympics, also, rather to my surprise, the FN, riders, Gravemeier and all, never made any attempt to play it down as just a little mishap, i.e. they did and do think it is a case of doping. And after that there was no way back, especially as everybody jumped on it (pardon th pun) with all sorts of horse-cruelty stories popping up all over the media. So TV threatened to bail out of the sport, sponsors - if they don’t get TV-coverage of course, never mind if sports is clean or not - which caused tournaments to publically demand for actions by the FN. So grumpy as they were anyway, they had no choice imo.. Ahlmann was rather miffed at first, considering to change nationality - and last he said, he'd be very proud to represent Germany again at some time. Hm.
 
it is hardly one rule for all if the NF's have to bring the case to CAS attention. Surely for the olympic games the sentence should be the same for all the competitors, it is after all not the NF's that run them. Do you not think that this opens the door to any countries who feel miffed about the way a case was originally treated now appealing to CAS for example?
Further the Germans have not said it was a case of doping (you ought to be careful with the use of that term) but simply that he used a prohibitted substance and as you rightly say the germans were contracted to use nothing their vets had not ok'ed.
as it happens, it was something appparently that had been in common use for years as a muscle rub, and like the other cases the test was only for trace elements so actually could not have been used to 'hypersensitise' as accused.
As mb also said it was more because of losing media and sponsors money more than anything. otherwise the book would have been thrown at mr tebbel also because this is after all a welfare issue is it not?
I am afraid to say that if i were on CAS i would say that the FEI had dealt with it (not all to the same standard but the german ban was pretty harsh compared to some) and as the ruling body they should be left to get on with it. This has completely undermined them which is certainly not good for horse sport is it.
