I've copied and pasted the following from another site
'ALL breeds on the DDA are now banned from council housing.
This BAN is going for amendment by the council ASAP to include all public lands and parks. ( Councils also manage our beaches and ALL open spaces).
A letter has been sent to the minister for env asking for a TOTAL BAN on all breeds on the DDL. '

I remember taking my Staffie to Ireland on holiday with me about 20 years ago. People were terrified of her, they seem to have a real problem with buul breeds over there.

Aren't all breeds covered under the DDA banned altogether anyway? We keep having this discussion don't we as it's open to all sorts of interpretation.

As I understand it, from the information on the internet, it is illegal to own one of the 4 breeds unless you have a special licence, and even then it is illegal to breed or sell pups.

If you read the link, EBT's Staffies GSD's etc will be banned!

Here is the Irish list

The breeds are: English Bull Terrier, Staffordshire Bull Terrier, American Pit Bull Terrier, Rottweiler, German Shepherd (Alsatian), Doberman, Rhodesian Ridgeback, Japanese Akita, Bull Mastiff, Japanese Tosa and Bandog. Cross-breeds of these dogs or crosses of these dogs with any other breed are also banned.

Omg! That seems a bit ridiculous. But then again the wee hoods in the council housing in my town like to have these breeds as they think it makes them look lke wee hard men.

Good point. I'm sure they were on the list too

Maybe this is something specific to Ireland

I don't know anymore than what's on the link I just thought it may be of interest and a fore warning that maybe England could follow suit.

Same here. The city shelter is 85% Pit Bull, most of which are found roaming and collarless in pretty dodgy places.

It's unfair that everyone be tarnished with the same brush, though. Poor bully breeds are always getting a bad rap. Some people even freak out when my 17lb Boston Terrier comes pootling along because, apparently, she is a baby Pit

NONE of those dogs are dangerous if bred and raised well!!
ANY dog in the wrong hands is a liability,it's not the breed of the dog but lack of good handling, why cant the powers that be see that???

On the contrary Anima, many of the dogs listed there ARE bred for aggression, for fighting and for killing! Not quite the same as little Tinkerbell the Chihuahua or Doodle the poodle.

In the right hands, you can't beat a bully breed for loyalty and affection, but I think you have a point, Tia. Something needs to be done about these idiots who have Pits and the like to look hard.

Rather than banning them outright, though, I'd like to see a more stringent system requiring compulsory licensing/random check-ups, so that good owners who happen to live on council estates aren't lumped in with the yob crowd.

It makes me so sad to think that the Pit Bull image of old -- that of a great family dog -- has become tarnished by pea-brained idiots.

So are many others not on the list and many more that we now breed as pets used to have a violent job to do.
Out of all the different breeds we have had as a family over the years the most agressive has been the yorkie, not on the list because it's small, cute and wont apeal to the well ard lot.
It's very simple, good owners have good dogs.
Bad "it's well ard innit" owners make bad dogs.

I would be very angry if this is implemented in England, we cant afford to buy a house the size we need in the area we want ot live in and would like a GSD or RR, both of those breeds would be a no go if we are renting form a council or TBH a housing association as we curently are since you cant walk them in council managed parks/woodland(IE nearly everywhere).

I come form a very large extended family and not one dog we have had over the years has shown agression, why should my choice of pet be restricted because a few morons dont know how to raise a well adjusted animal????

Yes I agree it is unfortunate that honourable people have to suffer because of the louts....but I guess for a Govt it is not so easy as vetting each and every family who live in their houses....perhaps they should though! Just as any private landlord would.

"You can't put a good apple in with a barrel of bad apples and expect all the bad apples to turn good."

I am quite cross about this, they couldn't possibly get rid of Staffies they are really very gentle natured naturally, think about other terriers and how they act chasing vermin! you wouldn't get a staff doing that without provocation, its their willingness to please that makes evil brain-dead morons able to manipulate them into fighting - they destroy the dogs soul, it is disgusting and those people should be shot.
We had problems in Italy with our little Saff x, they all thought she was some vicious cur! and they are the ones who have endless ill fed GSD types tied up on a chain outside their houses, whose only purpose in life was to bark viciously at anyone who came near! Staff x's are banned in most countries in Europe for the sole reason they may be mistaken for pit bulls!! (she is down as a Staff on her passport).
I am consoled that there are way to many staffs in England for a silly rule like this. The only dog that has ever bit me was a black Lab

2 be honest jrt are nasty little fukers why arnt they on the list ??? rotties bullmastiff and staffies are all soft as poo
