HI, does anyone know the name of the product I can remember once using? Its a flexible bandage that you put in the freezer and then take out an apply to horses leg to reduce swelling etc? Am looking for this or similar product as horse has swollen fetlock joint and thought would also be useful addition to first aid kit. If no improvement tomorrow will call vet but thought may be a useful thing to have as we used one a lot at college and they were really handy. Answers and maybe alternatives much appreciated - thanks in advance!

Years ago I had 3M Ice Water Quilts, they were a pale blue square about the size of a bit of fibagee. They were brilliant you soaked them in iced water then gently squeezed the excess water out and bandaged them in place.

Now tend to use neo-ice (like the Equi-n-Ice but cheaper). As Ovidius says they are reuseable and allegedly stay cold on the leg for 2 to 3 hours. Just bought 8 bandages (ready to use) and a bottle of recharge solution for about £54 delivered. Only ordered on Monday/Tuesday and they were delivered today.

I also use Neo-Ice. I dont know if they stay cold for 2/3 hours as Ive always just used them after XC, usually I leave them on until we leave the event so about an hour and the legs are still cold. Ive wrapped one round my arm to try them and they definately work!! Really useful.

You can also soak towels in water and put them in the freezer. Put them over a very thin layer of gamgee or similar to avoid any burns. Works a treat! This was a tip from one of my friends who has loads of money saving ideas. This was definitely one of her best ones.

I use a freezer bag filed with flour, it gets really cold and because it is flour it can be placed over any injury and will mould to the shape of the joint. It is quick, cheap and easy to replace if it gets wet.

I use a bonner bandage which is light blue one side and navy on the other! you soak it and then put it in the freezer and wrap it around the leg. i have found this an invaluable piece of equipment and use it after really strenuous work after competition.
