It seemed to be a bit of a fad last summer to put bandages on underneath boots for show jumping on sun-baked ground. Does anybody know if there is any basis behind this?

And also if they are useful for extra support - which are best? I only have fleece ones which are way too bulky for under boots.

not a good idea imho, new research shows that the more you have on a horse's legs, the more the shockwaves from the foot hitting the ground are amplified, they dissipate more quickly with no boots or bandages, or with the lightest-weight boots as possible. also, tendons overheating due to boots and bandages is a very real problem, and putting both on doesn't sound like a good idea to me.
i don't think either works as support tbh. i wouldn't jump on rock-hard ground, and i don't think any boot or bandage can limit the possible damage.

Ahh ok, thanks Kerilli. I did wonder about the heat issue. I wont be trying it this summer then
