My youngster came in with a huge cut that went from his hock up to the top of his leg on the inside, luckily it isnt deep but i bandaged it the first night just to keep it clean but it slipped down a bit and was generally very fidily, is there an easy way to bandage upper legs? Just for future reference. Thanks

Luckily the hock wasnt really involved it started just above, tubigrip is an excellent idea i shall get some for my first aid kit, would you put something like levaband or gamgee underneath? I know it sounds weird but i keep sanitory towels in my first aid kit would you put one of them underneath? Thanks

If it did not need stitching I would keep it as dry as poss - the last thing you want is for it to get wet. I would spray it and if you think it does need covering then put something dry and absorbent - STs/nappy liners. You could try vetwrap or something that will stick to the hair - will be difficult though!

you need to put a stable bandage on the lower leg then include the hock in your bandage that covers the upper leg so you basiclly end up with the whole leg covered. make sure you figure of 8 over the hock so as not to cause pressure points.

Expensive, but easiest to use sticky elastoplast bandages and change them only every two days or so. Modern wound management is to keep the wound wet for maximum scar free healing. That's why they now use intrasite gel. Use melolin sheets (Boots) to stop the wound sticking to the gamgee.
