My horse came in friday night, with a bump on his knee, not hot to touch, a little swollen, but felt quite hard. Lunged him to check if he was sound, and was sound on right rein, but was slightly lame on left rein. Guessed he'd fallen over in the field and hurt himself.

Left him in after that, with 2 sachets of bute a day, and cold hosing until yesterday. Lunged him and turned him out today, is completely sound, but lump still there. It's towards the bottom of the knee cap, and feels hard to touch.

Anyone have any ideas what this is? Was suggested he may have fluid on the knee or just be a very bruised knee cap.
Plus should i get the vet out? Have been really trying to avoid it, but starting to doubt myself now.

Thanks guys

The bute could be masking the pain. However it sounds like a clot to me e.g vet will burst it and charge you £100 plus give you drugs to make him well again. For peace of mind I'd caqll the vet, hope all's well which I am sure it is
