Just wondering how different yards work this? - One of my friends is at a yard that does both 5 and 7 day livery - if you are on 5 day you have to do bank hols yourself, if you are on 7 day the yard still does them - their is no discount for the 5 day people and no extra cost to the 7 day people.

Another friend is on a yard that you pay monthly for turn out and rugs - but their is no turn out or rugs done on any bank holiday - but you have to pay for them still - done a bit crafty as you have to pay monthly in advance and no one has ever been brave enough to challenge this rule.

So what happens at other yards at bank holidays ?

My old yard offered no services on Bank Holidays and I don't think we were charged. My current yard had a groom who charged double on Bank Holidays, very cheeky as it was not a formal job.

The only day my yard treats any differently is Christmas day itself; we all turn up and muck in (and out) to get everything done. All other holidays are treated as 'normal' days.

Not that it's a bank holiday here today anyway!

I used to be on 5 day livery which meant I covered weekends but I also had to cover bank holidays and there was no discount for that, the theory was the monthly rate was based on an annual rate which took into account the number of days services were provided.

The only concession was that whereas on livery days (weekdays) if we needed someone to cover something we had to get YO to do it and be charged (ie not ask others on yard or swap favours etc), at weekends and on bank holidays we were free to do it (on basis YO wasnt available to be asked!)
