Quick question, we had a very dodgy jump at a table and horse ended up banking it. Now, the commentator said that Id get penalised for it according to the rules. However, I didnt in the end. But Ive looked in the rule book and found nothing on it, so I assume you do NOT get penalised at all for it?? Surely as long as you pass between the flags, it doesnt matter HOW you get over it?

Never heard of being penalised for it. Lots of horses bank fences, I must of seen 10 at badders, none of them were penalised. I thought it was quite common to bank wider jumps like tables.

You definitely do not get any penalties for banking.

You can pretty much destroy / clamber over a fence without penalties as long as you were in between the flags and didn't step back.

At Badders a couple of horses banked the wide skinnies at one of the jumps. Not a great idea, but not penalised either.

What does 'banking a fence' mean please (excuse my ignorance - trying to learn)

[/ QUOTE ]

When a horse jumps the fence it puts it sort of jumps on and off the fence instead of straight over

Right, ok. Glad I know its not penalised for future! I thought it wasnt but the commentator confused me!

Toto - Yeah today was crap! The weather didnt help at all, it took a lot of my boy - he was knackered 1/2 way round which just isnt like him! It said "retired" on the board but actually we had 3 stops (2 at the coffin, 1 at the log after the drop). Wasn't too pleased to say the least but at least we finished. And as for banking the brush / table thing - that was heart-stopping, but again not like him. I am definately going to drop down to OPN for Coillemore next week, he's got rattled after his scrape at Brechin and just hasnt been the same since. Time for a confidence boost me thinks! Which fence were you on? It was so wet wasn't it?!

I think the commentator actually said that you ran out at the brush so maybe he got confused. I was at 9 the simple roll with barrels underneath. It was so annoying that it stopped raining at 4 when ever thing was finished! It is now lovely outside. Yeah think its wise to go back to PN. Burgie are having a hunter pace on the 14th/15th July which might be worth going to.

Oh you were at the roll thing - you probably had quite a good view of other fences from there at least.

Yeah, what are the chances that it stops raining at the very end! AGHH! My jodphurs were brown after the XC.... yeuch. Bet you were happy you weren't competing!

Im doing the Burgie thing, but Im taking my Welshie to do the Native Pony ODE which should be fun! You doing it?

I would like to but my parents are going to a wedding on the Saturday so I might not make it up. Plus its the weekend after my birthday and my friends may drag me through to Aberdeen for a night out! I really want to get my horse over a xc jump. I am also a bit confused as the entry form they have online just has the hunter pace and SJ on Saturday and the native ODE on the Sunday. Surely they will have more on the Sunday. Well I hope they do!

Yeah - the schedule doesnt make much sense. They said its a cross country "extravaganza" and they'd have all these fun classes over the weekend, yet like you say there's not much on the form!

Sorry to hear you had a bad day. Weather was atrocious, wasn't it?! I was having a great time with my baby horse who was lying in 6th place in the 3DE after Saturday's xc. Chuffed with both his dressage (only his 4th ever test!) and he went clear xc.

However, he had a bit of heat in his near fore yesterday morning and trotted up unlevel so I withdrew him. So, not a great end to the weekend

Think it's a good idea to drop down to PN for a few, just to build up the confidence again.

I saw you'd withdrawn in the results and wondered what happened. That's such a shame when all you have is the SJ left. At least you were pleased with him up until then. Clever little horse, he'll be a star for the future then!! Is he alright again now?

Are you doing Coillemore next week?

I was so chuffed with him, such a star and he's only just turned 5. Still a bit of heat in the leg so he's on box rest for a week then we'll see what's what.

Not doing Colliemore. I'm selling my wee grey gelding, The Liquorice Kid, (if you know of someone...) so have got various folk coming to view him over the next week (came back to a barrage of phone messages). He's not advertised yet, so will see how we go and then maybe put him on line.
