Isn't the obstacle the tree trunk partially blocking the gate? Haven't the people helpfully opened the gate for them? Didn't the man hit a horse which was already moving forward? Wasn't that a pretty stupid thing to do, in the face of the scrutiny all equestrian sports are under at the moment?
 
Barbaric? Brutal? I’m not seeing it. He flicked the horse with the thong of the hunting whip to keep the horse going towards a group of people, presumably some of which were wearing balaclavas and probably not encouraging the horse forwards. They aren’t police horses, trained to dealing with aggressive crowds.

Barbaric? Perhaps a stretch imo.

I have a hunting whip just like that that I always hack with and the leather on the end is actually very soft (I use the curved horn to open and close gates because I'm not that agile, not to hit Dex with).

I imagine the horse is probably crap with water, has refused to go through there once, he didn't want to get into a battle with it that may look ugly whilst the sabs were there/he was being filmed or the like - the difficulty with such a short clip missing context; the fact she pony club kicked in the beginning would indicate she could feel it backing off already. Hunt riders don't hate horses, despite what people seem to think on the whole (not you BB, a generalised comment).

I actually don’t have an opinion about hunting because i absolutely know nothing about it, but Im sorry, if i was on that horse and someone whacked its arse like that he would have that whip wrapped round his throat. There is no difference between doing this and what CDJ did or that other nutter. It might have been one whack, it might have been several.. who knows.. its wrong.
The horse was moving forward and there was no need for it.

It's possible that both horses and riders know each other well and that a floppy flip on the bum for the one horse is not an issue. That horse's ears were not registering any rear end concerns at all. I have done similar with my friends horse, albeit very gently, just to let him know that we'd rather he didn't reverse rather than go forwards! He has form for reversing which my mare in particular is not impressed by...

There is nothing wrong with being anti hunting. It is after all illegal to hunt foxes with hounds in this country. With hunts like the Warwickshire no one needs to create a stir. They do it all by themselves! For example in the last week hunting a fox through peoples gardens!

Sorry to disagree but this is a ridiculous overreaction.

A good rider will see a problem brewing before it actually arises. A well timed tap or kick can then prevent a drama.

He's not repeatedly hitting it, a flick with the thong of hunting whip to encourage it forward when not very keen is hardly abuse and not comparable to the CDJ situation in any way.

The horse was hit 4 times in a few seconds
You do not have to hit hard with a hunters whip like that for it to hurt horribly.
The longer something is the less force you have to put into it
Genuinely would love you guys who think this is ok to stand there and have them two do that to you and see if it hurts
 
Clearly there is a lot more cruel riders/people if you can call them that on this forum than initially suspected 🤣🤣🤣
That whip belongs in an ann summers store, I had one when I did the parties 🤣🤣
For the record.. I have a great grip on life @Hallo2012 and it does not involve whacking my horse 🤣🤣
 
We also don't know that they haven't spent half an hour before this video trying to get the horse through the gate. Not dismissing the fact the whip was used but it could have been done to prevent a dangerous situation. No different to someone giving their horse a smack on the shoulder up to a jump to stop it ducking out. The horse appeared to be moving forwards but we should all know that a horse can duck out extremely quickly even if it appeared fine at that moment.

FWIW, I don't use a whip and don't remember the last time I even carried one but I do think that giving them a tap to prevent a dangerous situation isn't necessarily a bad thing. CDJ doing it to make a horse look pretty and move unnaturally is massively different.
 
This whipped up hysteria (pardon the pun) is exactly the type of thing that plays straight into the hands of those extreme activists that would have us all turn our horses out into the wilderness to live their 'best life' far from all interference from wicked humans.

People need to get a grip and protest genuine animal cruelty, there is enough of it around to keep us busy without this sort of pointless posturing.

I have seen and read on here far more inhumane and cruel practices condoned and even recommended on here. Would you believe I once read on this forum someone suggesting boiling sugar water thrown over unwanted neighbourhood cats, now that dear reader, is barbaric I am sure you will agree.😡
 
Hmm, an uninviting opening for the horse clearly but would you really whack a horse (it was a whack, clearly heard on the video) from behind (and within kicking distance) when there's a trappy opening ahead with people leaning on the gate to squash, loose tape on the gatepost to get tangled in, etc etc. Risk assessment alone was pretty rubbish, let alone the assessment of public opinion. I might have seen whether the chestnut would go first, if the first horse was finding it a challenge.
