barbed wire - a pain in the ar**

Just a mini rant really.

Hacked my horse today with a friend and her youngster. As we rode down the track between a couple of turnout fields, her horse spooked when a couple of pheasants flew out of the bushes. Unfortunately, my friend fell off (she's fine), her horse spun around and ran back past mine. All the horses in the fields next to track started racing up the fenceline. Was all very scarey and my poor horse could barely contain himself. I did my best to keep him calm but in the process of avoiding the oncoming youngster I managed to back my boy backed into/onto the barbed wire fence along the edge of the track.

He now has 3 x long but not too deep gashes on his bum. They're nasty but thankfully no stitches required and his tet jabs are up to date. No showing classes for me in the immediate future !!

So my rant .....I hate barbed wire...... I know it's often a necessary evil - but I hate it anyway!!!

It's one type of fencing that I have never had and never would consider using. Dreadful stuff!!

Hope your little neddie is feeling better soon.
 
I was once riding along a bridlepath with a barbed wire fence on one side and bushes on the other. A pheasant flew out of the bush squaking, spooked my horse who threw me onto the barbed wire fence! Fortunately I was wearing a thick coat, this got completely ripped, but atleast it wasn't my arm!
 
When i first got my horse angel, she escaped from her stable and tried to get into the field beside the stables, walked right through a barb wire fence, amazingly enough she only had a tiny cut on her back leg as it wrapped itself around it, she stood still while i untangled her.

Put purple spray on her whole leg lol, i just dont like barb wire, brings me bad luck lol

Its not a necessary evil - its just evil. barbed wire and horses do not mix. full stop.
 
My thoughts exactly - vile stuff. I have scars on my legs where a horse I was riding went sideways into a barbed wire fence. I'm amazed how much of it borders bridlepaths round our way

i caught my finger on some last week, ripped a big V in my skin down to the bone, like a tear in canvas, thought the top of my finger was going to come off (really weird sensation having your skin tearing) but its healing really quickly
 
I absolutely hate it! It is the one fencing I cannot stand. Unfortunately we have it everywhere on the farm

which means Lottie has ripped no end of rugs by leaning over the fence. Touch wood though I haven't had any injuries in over 10 years with 8 horses.

I'll be so glad that we will have all permanent electric fences once the livery yard is up and running. It working really well in the one field we have it in.
