I'm confused. I decided tonight to get on Roo without her saddle, and I had a small jump up but I couldn't work out how you can get into jumping position without stirrups to get out of the saddle

At my old riding school, where my dad would occasionally have lessons, they told him to do rising trot without stirrups. Couldn't work that one out either! Surely you'd end up gripping really hard with your knees?

When i was in college we used to jump without stirrups and reins, long before health and safety took a grip, it was only a row of small bounces though! Just grip like hell with your legs/knees.

yup ditto rubyrumba! Arms out like a bird and grip like hell with your knees! try to lighten your seat slightly as well!

however I would not try it with no saddle on! like my crotch not hurting too much!

I reguly ride lucy without a saddle because i am to lazy to put a saddle on. Yesterday i hacked her out with the kids i nanny and abby asked how i was rising. I just grip with my thigh and the horse pushes me up. I also school and jump lucy with no saddle or bridle. (maybe i'm just showing off now.)

knees/thighs! grip like he11 and hope you dnt fall off!!! on my last pony i used to do it all the time, fell off most of the time but usually just slipped off. i just kinda do it on auto but i grip with my knees and thigs, lean forwards and it just happens!!

ah cool. I went over a tiny fence in trot but I was so confused I didnt try agian, and I felt like I needed something on her neck, so will put a stirrup leather round her neck to grab

I agree with that, when I have my saddle i never trot to fences, but it was my first ever attempt, and I was very unsure lol
