Have done quite alot of bareback riding recently and whilst zooming about bareback in the gymkhana I was fine and even sat a buck

And on the flat I was fine. But when I jumped I nearly came off and it was only being able to wrap my legs round Bramble and grab a load of her mane that I was able to stay on.

So any tips on how to stay on. Instructor told me heels down, sit back a bit and to squeeze with knees. I also found riding in shorts easier than in my jods

i havent jumped bareback since i was about 14 and dont think im gonna attempt it at the moment either!

Holding a peice of mane should help you balance or a neckstrap. Also make sure you look up as the old saying goes dont look down coz thats where you'll end up!

I learnt that the hard way a few years ago

Looked down and bang. Did it in the Donkey Derby a few years back too

Did have lots of fun though.

Thinking of having a bareback fun lesson with friends so shall grab a neck strap from the tack room

my suggestion would be to practice rising trot with a saddle and no stirrups, when you are happy with this try riding it without the saddle, and then on to jumping :-)
