Barefoot and wet ground?

My barefoot horse was doing really well, managed through all the ice and snow, but now the ground is sodden he has gone tender again.
His diet is right and he has alfabute anyway but i have had to give him some danilon as well , my EP has checked him ruled out laminitis says he has soft soles atm and to put hardener on while it is wet, don,t really want to turn him out in boots as he is such a lunatic, he is stabled at night.
Just wondered if anyone else is having this problem with their barefooters?

No, mine's been fine. He's been barefoot since Oct though if that makes a difference (just had fronts on and he came to me barefoot a year ago). There is a horse on the yard though that is foot sore. If he's kept in overnight he's like a different horse in the morning.

Generally find if the foot is otherwise healthy they cope with wet. If not fully healthy then it can all go horribly wrong quite quickly.

So long as the horse is sound, then work helps a lot. Some of the horses living in the soggiest ground do well and they seem to be the ones that work the hardest.

Even regular (daily if poss) 20 minute hand walk on a dry, comfortable (for that horse) surface can help. You might need boots if the feet have gone very soft, and/or the soles have thinned.

When you say 'soft' do you mean chalky, 'squidgy' or do they actually flex under pressure from thumb/finger?

He is a navicular horse but was scoring 5.1 now 4.8 EP said his soles wern,t as hard as they have been, i suppose they could be bruised as he tears about and there are a few stones in the field, he has been barefoot since June only had a score of 2.5 then and wore wraps for first 12 weeks
