Barefoot boots

Hi. I've recently taken the shoes off my mare as I want to try barefoot...better for her feet and cheaper! however, she's quite sore coming in and out of the field on the drive as we have gravel. can anyone recommend some barefoot boots that i could put on her to bring her in and out until her feet harden up?

I have easyboots (my boy suffers with thrush and can get quite sore), i love them,they are quite pricey but they last!! I would only use them for crossing the gravel (which by the sounds of things is all you want them for). Lots of road work will harden her feet up. But increase the amount gradually as her feet need to adjust. Too much roadwork straight away may cause her feet to wear down too much and too the point she will be very sore. :)
 
I have just got some cavello's as they were one of 3 types that actually fitted my horse. Think you need to get hoof measurements and then have a look at the saddlery shop to see what will fit your horse and budget. You can also have a look around at the second hand hoof boot market.
 
Thanks guys! She's already a bit better since the shoes came off on Tuesday, but i'm going to do some research on the brands you've mentioned and see what i can get. Anyone tried http://www.renegadehoofboots.com/? A friend has recommended them, but I'm nervous buying from the US in case they don't fit...
 
Hey! When did you take her of the shoes? Cose every horses need a time to adapt to they "new" way to walk. They suffer at first because the nail is "soft". They have to carry they own 500kg ... and thats A LOT. So dont work her if you see she's walking head down and strangly.
It's very important to give her a time of transition:)
 
I use Boa boots for my boy as they are the only boot that come up big enough for him. You need to measure your horse's feet and see what make she is best suited to.

Her shoes are only off 8 days now. she's 100% in the field but just still very tentative walking on our drive in and out to the field. i wouldn't do any work with her until i get the boots - i just chase her in the field a bit to make sure she gets a bit of proper exercise!
the old macs website seems to be down...www.easycareinc.com won't connect for me at all. and cavallo say they only ship to the USA or canada!
anyone know anywhere else to find out info? someone else mentioned these boots - http://www.renegadehoofboots.com/ anyone tried those ones?

I have used Renegades which are easy to put on and pretty good but I now find that Easycare Gloves have far better grip, are discrete, and make the same noise as a barefoot horse rather than a slightly clacky noise.

you can get all the easycare range ie old macs, G2's, gloves, edges etc from www.thesaddleryshop.co.uk
you can return them if they don't fit.
The gloves have to fit very well so you can hire (I think it is £5) a fit kit from the saddlery shop to get the correct size.

The saddlery shop also sell cavallos.

You can get the easycare range and cavallos from other UK outlets but the saddlery shop is probably a good place to start for advice and for info from their web site.

Renegades are great boots and work well. They are not cheap. However if they fit your horse they are worth it. Sizing is more difficult in view of coming from the US>

If you go onto E bay and search under "hoof boots" then you will see renegades sold in the UK. I think they are around £168 a pair. Probably this dealer will accept returns so that will rule out the sizing problem.
 
I bought my Renegades direct from the US (at a brilliant exchange rate a few years ago!), the company could not be more helpful.
