So i am thinking of feedinf my 6 year old mare this? We are going to take her hind shoes off at the next shoeing in 6 weeks. so needs to be bf friendly

Hifi molasses free
speedibeet (only a small amount as she doesnt like wet sloppy feeds)
ers pellets or copra or oats
forageplus balancer

Im not sure whether to feed ers pellets, copra or oats? What would people suggest she is lacking a little muscle just now and in moderate work.

Remember hi fi molasses free still contains alfalfa which can make some horses footy.

Copra is sloppy when soaked so she probably wouldn't like it.

I would probably go of the ers pellets and I would also add micronised linseed to her diet.

If you are concerned your horse needs more protein and/or calories but want low sugar/starch you could try Micronised Linseed http://www.charnwoodmilling.co.uk/horse_specs/micronized whole linseed.htm

It is a good source of the major amino acids a horse needs including lysine and has omega 3 and 6 in similar proportions to grass. (Copra is higher in O6 than O3 which is the 'wrong' way round).

Speedibeet doesn't have to be really wet and sloppy. :D I recommend the FP Hoof health balancer btw. It contains lysine (a protein often short in horses' diets). Second using m. linseed as well.
