My welsh D mare has not worn shoes for a couple of years at least. She's never not been 'ouchy' over stones etc but otherwise not been a problem.

Farrier commented that her left fore is going a bit flat and sole in contact with ground hence why she is now really sensitive on any hard surface, can just about cope on super smooth road! Would really rather not put shoes back on so what would you do?

She isn't fed anything at the moment just hay at night and out on bare paddock during day. When she does lose enough weight for hard feed was planning on putting her back on her 'barefoot diet' of fast fibre, linseed, pro balance and timothy chop. (Before taking her off hard feed totally she was on baileys lo cal and molasses free chaff)

Yes she's going back on the supplements.

Didn't think vet would be necessary, oh gawd! Farrier said she was OK. She's not showing any signs whatsoever of laminitis or anything etc. However, on her last trim she was done by someone else and was foot sore after (massive mistake but used mum's farrier and he brought another qualified farrier along so thought they might aswell her do her as she is due and mum farrier is reputable). So wondering if there is a link between the two. Normal farrier has done her properly this time so was going to watch for any improvement or maybe get some hoof boots for her.
