One of my horses is on box rest...
She's been unshod for a few years.
I noticed her soles are very soft and flaking off when picking her feet out.
She's been in four weeks now and bedded on shavings and straw mixed.
Ive started washing her hooves in salt water and putting field paste on every three days as I am concerned about thrush. Before that she was just getting them picked out and brushed clean several times a day.
She gets ten min walks on concrete three to six times a day and I hope to let her on the concrete yard during the day in the next week or so.
Is the flaking just the sole she's not wearing away naturally through movement or could it be something else?
she's on her usual diet of fast fibre and linseed with pro balance....I had given her some grass pellets (in feed ball) but her legs filled and I am pretty sure they caused it, so she's not having them anymore
