My barefoot boy looks like he has a abscess, I've never had a abscess in a barefoot horse, his sole is solid so I can't see it coming out the bottom. I've called the vet for some advice but what is best to do?

I have hot tubbed and politiced it and he is in any other advice

Poultice the heel bulbs and the coronet band, as that is where it will eventually come out If it is not dug out. Warm wet bran with Epsom salts in makes a good foot poultice. Some people will tell you to keep him moving. I'm not convinced that helps and it certainly hurts!

I don't believe horses with abscesses should be made to move but I also don't think they need to be stabled either, unless a field mate will badger them!

Vet has dug it out, was at the toe she didn't have to dig to deep but it wss tracking up to the coronet band. He was much better instantly so will throw him out later if hr is still ok
won't it be liable to soil contamination ? I was told to keep him in till it healed, but had to turn out due to him going stir crazy and no sign of complete healing after about 8 days. I have to say it was deep and there was dirty stuff on the dressing for several days after.

At the very centre of the toe? Keep your eyes on his weight, that is one symptom of possible laminitis.

You should keep it poulticed for few days now, so I hope you have a nice strong boot or several reels of duct tape handy.

I'm going to keep it politiced, he is poor (getting better) but still needs to put about another 100kg's on. Looks of Duck tape at the ready!

Gorilla tape is better.

I never box rest for abscesses as both my vet and farrier encouraged me to keep her out and let her move at her own speed in her own time. She's not out with any bullies though.
