Old lammy lady now gets to go out on poor grazing for an hour in the morning and an hour at night, so far seems to be working fine and she's not having any feet trouble (if anything she's walking better than ever). We have pea gravel to the field and stoney tracks which she walks down fine, occasional ouch if she stands on a big rock. She also has a bald pen which she has soaked hay in but it's been too hot for her and she just wants to come in all the time, walks fab on that aswell. Would the footiness be noticeable on the pea gravel if she was having too much grass or it was too rich for her.

You are doing better than I am with my girl. She had come sound until the downpour the other night. I kept her in the sand the next day, but put her out in her grazing muzzle for two hours yesterday morning and she is back to square one. Really footy on concrete and stones, and very slightly footy on sand.

When she has very low grade lami, she does not look at all footy on sand, nor would she on pea gravel. But she walks very sluggishly on harder surfaces. So I would say that you need to check your mare on a hard surface daily, and/or feel for pulses.

That's good to know about concrete, she has to walk over concrete to get out of stable and is sound over that. She likes taking me on walks round the yard! Am I best watching her walk over concrete then stones you recon?

I think if she is marching on on the concrete, she is probably fine. Many horses are sore over stones.
