I'm awaiting the arrival of my Barefoot London saddle (not sure what to expect as I've never seen one in real life), it comes with a BF London pad again no idea what they are like either but it comes with foam shims and leathers but I could do with knowing what other extra bits and bobs I may need.

I'll need to buy a dressage/treeless curved girth to aid his forward girth groove and probably the wide and soft pommels but is there any other recommended pads (shimmable) that suit this type as I'll need some spares, basically I want to make sure I have everything I could need on hand for when I'm fitting it, so any recommendations would be helpful.

Thank you.

Glad you got a saddle sorted :) I had the barefoot london before I got the HM saddle. My horse went well in it but needed something less wide for my hips and more conventional looking for showing. I found it hurt my hips as it was too wide for me on a wide horse. I was looking at buying the HM hip saver for the barefoot saddles but decided to get the HM saddle.

I got the curved girth from equine whispers. For shims that went in the grandiuer (sp?!) pad that came with it I used a yoga mat and cut the shims as required. These just slotted into the pad with the foam pads that were already in there. Put the shims to the saddle side on top of the foam so there are no edges to cause pressure points.

Shame as I have just sold my barefoot london saddle too for a bargain price the full kit and I'd only used it 4 months!

If you find its not suitable and you still want to try the HM then get in touch again and I'll bring it over for you to try.

Thanks Carmaandflin, you're a star :)

Arrh dam, if only I'd of known, mind you I didn't know I was getting one really, was just looking at them last week and thought what heck, I'll just get one so it was an impulse buy off ebay, not the brightest idea I've had but just decided to go with a gut feeling.

Are the girth straps on them long or high up, just wondering what girth size, he takes a 54 in a standard girth so was thinking a 30" in a dressage size?

Do hope it arrives soon for you :-D and if not suitable they do hold their value so you should get your money back. The only problem with the girth straps I found was that they are fastened at the bottom of the flap and were too far back for his forward girth groove. I did have to get the curved girth to help with this and to pull the straps forward before fastening up the buckles. I had the 54 inch girth and now use a 28" curved girth. I also like the professional choice neoprene girth to stop side to side slipping with the barefoot. Either 28" or 30" should be fine. I have both sizes for his fat or thin days! :-S

Thanks, hmmm I'm hoping with a curved girth it may be ok but I'm not banking on it, this one has the different girthing system to the older model or did you have the latest one as well? but I think as you say there still attached to the bottem, so may not make any difference, that's the one thing I'm worried about.
Arh well, we'll soon see.

Thanks for your help.

The curved girth did help and if the rest of the saddle works I had seen pictures of a lady who had the saddlers moving the straps so they were more like the 'Y' girthing system. I joined a treeless saddle group on Yahoo Groups and they were a great help. I think the pictures were on there. Didn't change mine as I bought the HM.

The model I had was the newer one with the VPS underneath. If everything else with the saddle works then there are always solutions to many problems. Also ensure you get some safety stirrups as the stirrup bar is a closed one.
