Barefoot mare - can you see any improvement yet

OK, apologies for the filthy horse but she had been playing out

Its now been a few weeks since our mare went barefoot. These are some pics from tonight. At the bottom are some just before. Approximately the same time from shoeing/trimming. Can you see any improvement yet.

Well I'm only a mere beginner at this barefoot stuff, but what I can see is that the angle of the hoof wall has changed......don't know anything more than this and I'm sure that CPT or Oberon will correct me!

YOu have to lie in the dirt and get the camera level with the floor, otherwise it's impossible to tell what's going on.

Well it wont be me doing that, I dont move fast enough

Remember up until recently my pet name for this was "The Beast" It might have improved recently but no way I am lying on the floor that close to it.

My daughter had me buy it for her, she can grovel in the dirt

Your trimmer has a camera to take decent hoof pics if you remind him to bring it next visit.

It's impossible to see a fair representation of the hoof angles from shots taken hovering above the hoof.

If it's only been a few weeks, then the only change will be in the few mm of new growth at the top.

You might want to give it a few more weeks (a couple of months). IME looking for weekly changes will drive you a bit mental.

Thank you, I only really looked tonight as our other mare is having shoes which means this mare would normally have been done.

I took the other pics when she was due for shoeing, so I thought I would compare how she had managed barefoot in the same time scale.

The important thing is she is happier in herself and seems much more comfortable. Quite pleased that her hooves aren't breaking off either. I thought they were doing quite well.

You will learn in time
