Due to us only doing hacking at the weekends the farrier said it was fine for us to have Tess barefoot on her back feet. She came to us barefoot but feet were very worn down just wondering what you think of them at the moment as we are quite new to this :o. We are putting hoof gell on them as the field she is in is quite wet to keep them protected :)

front ones with shoes :

Any tips would be greatly appreciated on looking after barefoot feety :D

I'm no expert and new to being unshod as well and It's hard to tell from those photo's you need to get the hoof side on and taken from the floor level, a pain I know.

From what I can make out the backs look like they are gaining some concavity which is good :)

From what I can see the hinds look pretty strong. If you find he's at all tender after a trim, maybe ask the farrier to go easy on the frogs, but if not don't worry too much.

You can see the fronts are just starting to weaken a bit, however - the caudal hoof does not look quite so robust, and there doesn't appear to be that much concavity to the fronts. Plum pudding's right, though, there's an art to taking good hoof pics ;).

Im sorry, the little git decided standig nicely on the concrete pad was to hard and started tap dancing round me :o After slipping in the field and being drenched in mud on my back i let her get away with it. Shall try again soon :-) Just worried about causing them damage !

That's good, she seems to be doing well on most ground just a fair old bit is chipping away :-)

Thank you so much for looking even at my shoddy camera work ;)

heh, no worries. I've perfected the art of holding the leg with my knees, farrier style - my poor horses are resigned to my nutty hoof-photographing ways now :D.

Don't worry too much about the chipping, so long as it's cosmetic (not huge chunks of foot coming off!) - it's just a means of self trimming, as the hoof wall shouldn't be longer than the sole (or more than a mm or two longer, anyway). Looks like the nail holes haven't completely grown out yet? the chipping ought to reduce once they're gone :).
