Since 2002, the Houston police service have been transitioning their horses in order to try and reduce costs caused by lameness and injury. Since 2008, the whole lot of them have been barefoot.

This isn't news to most people, but I enjoyed reading this article from the police officer's perspective.

I spoke with some GMP riders the other day, we talked about barefoot and how I thought it would benefit their horses spending hours walking on roads and occasionally being asked to trot or canter on tarmac. I think it will be a long time before they take barefoot on board, lol.
