Barefoot police horses

Do we have barefoot police horses in England? Just wondered really and if anybody has any pics of them

Not in the UK, but in the US, Houston made the transition.

And I heard a rumour that Austin were doing the same thing.

yes! saw a pair on a corner in central london (so presumably the met), one had 4 easyboot gloves on the other fully shod... so i assume its just on an individual basis.....

I heard there was, I think that's a big step forward towards getting the public talking about it.

I know there are several US and I think Canadian police forces whose horses are not shod.

Aussie Police horses are mostly barefoot.

I spoke to some GMP mounted officers about barefoot.
Decided to leave it when I realized they were considering having me sectioned.

I would think that hoof boots would be perfect for Police Horses as they would provide extra protection at times of riot/demonstrations, etc. And for normal patrolling duties the hooves would have better grip than in shoes.

I know the Police once tried a plastic or rubber shoe, but it was too "sticky" and ruined the horses' joints. (Trip to Birmingham Police many years ago). There has to be some slip.
