Star has been on box rest and then walking in hand since January when she was diagnosed with a damaged suspensory ligament in her foreleg. We've just progressed to ridden work, currently, 20 minutes daily.

The inhand stuff was done on the farm tracks, and she was fine. So far, I've been taking her out on the roads, for the short hack and she's been absolutely fine.
Tonight, I rode her up the track, and she was ever so slightly stumbly. I'm putting this down to the stonier ground, and the fact that her feet will need to toughen up again.

She has been barefoot for 3 years, is being fed on lightly soaked hay (dust control) and Spillers Lite Feed Balancer.

Considering that she has been sucessfully barefoot before the boxrest, how long do you think she will take to 're-transition'?

If her hooves are otherwise healthy and well developed - then it shouldn't take her too long at all.

Box rest is very hard on horses (who are designed to move :D) but obviously you had no choice on this occasion, so it's fair to expect her to take some time to get back comfy again.

I would consider boots and pads for a while if you go anywhere hard/stony.

You really don't want her to start bracing and putting any stress on her muscles etc.
