So hit a bit of a brick wall with Jakes deep central sulcus crack and didn't quite know what to do as it didn't seem to be improving over a couple of months of trying various different treatments. Well I was recommended to try red horse hoof stuff/artimud and so glad I did! Bought my pot of hoof stuff on 7th October, but seemed to have trouble getting it to stay in in his wet muddy field (although it did still start to improve). Then started to bring him in overnight, as he was being turned out 24/7, to give it a chance to stay in. Also emailed red horse products to see if they had any tips, well they were brilliant, asked me to send some pics and recommended I try artimud instead as his cracks were not as deep as before. They sent me a free pot of artimud as I was having trouble with the hoof stuff staying in, and have to say this seems to be working very well! I'm really pleased with how his feet have improved and his heels are starting to look a lot less contracted and the central sulcus is looking a lot better also!
I have now been using the artimud since 20th October and seems to be doing the trick. He also saw the farrier on Monday who trimmed a bit off of his frog to try and open up the central sulcus a bit. Luckily he seems to have very tough feet and never seems footy after having his frog trimmed back a bit, so that seemed to help too.
Anyway I will stop rambling.. this is his left fore a week before I started using the red horse products and again tonight, I'm really pleased with the improvement
(have also bought some field paste to use on his soles as they are cracking a bit, so this should improve shortly too!)
Excuse the mud in most recent pics, had just dragged him out of the field and it was dark!
He also hasn't been ridden for about 2 weeks due to weather/lack of school/darkness! But we are moving to a new yard with floodlights and a school and miles and miles of hacking, so hoping this should help him improve further
He has only been barefoot since June when I bought him so really pleased with him, considering they were so crap to start with!
