barefoot question...best hoof boots??

have cavello ones at the moment for poppy and they are doing my head in!! clumpy....no grip....and the velco comes undone as soon as they are damp

what does everyone else use??

Cavellos and love mine! I don't think they are clumpy, in fact I think they look like over reach booties and find them quite grippy hehe, sorry to be no help, but each to their own!

I tried Cavallos and hated them! Now have Easyboot Gloves and think they are the best thing since sliced bread! Stay on through everything, don't rub, aren't clumpy and are hard wearing

I used Cavallos on my old girl and loved them, as did she, she walked beautifully in them across any terrain

It depends! What size is your horses foot. What conditions do you want to use them in?
I'd love to have gloves but they don't fit either of mine so we're in Old Mac G2s - bit clumpy looking but neither of my two has had any probs with them - always stayed put

I also use Cavallos and love them, as does my horse! Not had any problems with the grip or the velcro!

Old macs if needed (were for my old horse but keep a couple of pairs.lying around). But cavellos would be my other choice.

As Ali2 said it depends on your horses hoof size and shape. I got Old Macs G2 after following the advice on the Saddlery Shops website http://www.thesaddleryshop.co.uk/MeasureHoofBoots.aspx
I'm happy with them and even though they are a bit of a faff to put on, once on they seem very secure and horse seems to be very sure footed and happy with them on.

I also use the Cavallo boots and absolutely LOVE them. I switched to Cavallo after trying a few pairs of Easyboots that were anything but easy! The Cavallo's were by far the simplest to put on and off, stayed on my horses through all terrain and never caused any chaffing or rubs.

I don't think you can say which are best really, you need to find the ones that best suit your horse which may be different to what suits some other.

I tried Easyboot Gloves but my boy didnt like them at all - I suspect it was the gaiter that he wasnt keen on (or the having to hit them with a rubber mallet to get them on properly )

I do have a real notion for a pair of Easyboot Back Countrys though but I dont know anyone with them so I am waiting till I hear some test reports back before I jump in and buy some.

but Skippy, they are essentially Gloves without the same gaiter so you'll have the same shell to bang on with a hammer, however, I feel like you and I'm quite tempted by them.

Fit is obviously vital - and a style that both carer and horse can get on with.

That said I've seen Cavello's stay on while used for 24/7 turn out in snow/mud (to protect abscess hole/dressing).

I've had reports of some slippage and others of excellent grip. I guess part of that must be down to horse/rider combo. I would recommend that new boots get properly scuffed up as when new they are a little shiny/smooth on the bottom.

Had more negative than good reports of Trails - tend not to fit so well on horses with decent heels - not enough material to go round. Plus fastening at back has tendancy to be damaged if horse over reaches. Material not up to the work my more vigorous users tend to demand.

Gloves are great for the right shaped feet - but the need to tap on with a rubber mallet can be a PITA esp with sensitive types. Never got on with them that well myself.

For post rehab but not quite 100% bare I like Renegades if the foot is the right shape for the style. And they come in great colours which of course is really important..........

My horse, on the other hand, loves his Gloves

We have graduated to them from Old Mac G2s, which were fine for first boots, but a pain to get done up, especially in the cold and wet, and hideous to clean.

I also tried Skippy's Cavallos, and didn't like them... it would have been too much like going back to the Old Macs - for me, the Cavallos and Old Macs are like horse wellies, and the Gloves are like ballet slippers (but with grip...)

I did use a rubber mallet at the beginning, but my horse now understands "stomp please" so we don't need the mallet any more
