Has anyone got experience of this saddle - thinking of buying one for Chancer to start our hacking as (a) I love hacking western and (b) he has a huge amount of growing to do, so this should always fit him and be comfortable.

Not the nevada but I do have a barefoot treeless saddle and I adore it. Used it for 4 yrs or so now and its perfect for my mare who changes shape. They do slip though so have a goof saddle pad underneath ( I have a non slip one) and try to ensure you have a good seat as your balance is paramount.
They are soooo comfy and I'd never go back to a regular saddle unless the barefoot didnt suit my horse anymore.

I ride Hudson in the Barefoot Cheynne which I really like, my friend has the western version which I presume is the same with just the western bits added onto it, I also have an Abetta Trail Saddle which you can get in a western style, again it's very comfy. I imported mine from the states and with import duty it was still good value, but I think there is a UK company selling the Abetta Western Trail http://www.thewesternshop.com/websites/dalewestern/SaddlesAndTack.html

If I am doing anything hilley (and we do have some big hills) I do use a breast plate with both saddles but on the whole no slipping problems.

Thanks ever so much for comments - am now going to actively search out a treeless for Stinky - he is nearly 3 and my vet has said well able to start short hacks.

He is getting bored in the field and the three sessions he gets a week of groundwork are really not enough for him mentally, but I don't want to increase lunging and can only do so much long reining as I have a tendon problem, hence starting hacks before he destroys everything in reach of his teeth or drives Cairo mental.
