Does anyone know of a good barefoot trimmer that covers Warwickshire?

I have been thinking about going barefoot for a while and removed his shoes to give his feet a break a few weeks ago. He is now doing so well I would like to continue without putting them back on and wondered if anyone could recommend a trimmer. I have seen the names of a few on various websites however would really appreciate any recommendations.

Thanks very much. This is my first post on a forum so Hi everyone!

I am interested in this subject because I cannot understand why people who want to go without shoes, don't do it under the supervision of a proper farrier ?

Why don't you ask your farrier to keep your horses feet trimmed for barefoot use ?

I took my horses barefoot 3 years ago. If I could have found a RELIABLE farrier who would do a barefoot performance trim, rather than a pasture trim, or preparatory trim for shoes, I would have used him!

My barefoot trimmer does a great job, is very reliable, qualified, helpful, and handles the horses beautifully.

Ditto. When my mare was barefoot (three years) she was trimmed by the farrier. Not sure why you would use anyone else to be honest.

I now use a barefoot trimmer. My farrier shod my horse so badly he made him lame (discovered by the vet when he xrayed his feet trying to work out what was wrong with him). Horse later broke down and was LOU. Same farrier took his shoes off ready to turn him away in a field. Horse was so sore after the trim he was on bute for a week.

That is why I don't use a farrier to trim my horses! My replacement horse has been trimmed for 2 years by the barefoot trimmer he has not had ONE day lame and I event, hunt jump and generally treat him as a normal horse.

Some farriers are OK, others definitely NOT. Laugh at barefoot, don't know the difference between a pasture trim and a working trim.

My barefoot trimmer was from Warwickshire but has moved to Wales, although I think he still comes up to Warwickshire every so often. Barefoot trimmers are very knowledgeable and will walk you horse both before and after the trim, will give you advice on diet, keeping the horse etc. and how the horse is getting on. Does the farrier tell you how the frogs/internal structures are when he comes.

I repeat, some farriers are OK. I put shoes back on mine for the show season, but farrier has told me to take them off again for the winter as his feet will benefit.

Thanks for all your comments.

I have thought about it alot over the last few weeks and feel that a good trimmer will be better than a farrier that does not do much with horses working without shoes. Although I'm wary about just picking someone without any recommendation.

I agree that it depends on the farrier and from the way he approached removing the shoes I'm not sure that my farrier is the best person to look after my horse's feet at the moment.

Does feel odd planning to get someone who is not a farrier to look after his feet.
