barefoot trimmer near scottish borders??

Watch what you are doing, i had visit from SSPCA guy trying to find the one who had been making a mess of horses feet. 2 of them were left in such a state that he had been called in.

sorry, just been told to use one but i cant seem to find her

sorry

There's no such thing as 'proper' barefoot trimmers. It is an unregulated industry. As far as I can gather, only Equine Podiatrists have any form of qualification.

Hope you find someone appropriate!

Sorry.. ut just get a bloody farrier.. LEAST THEY ARE TRAINED!

Registered my arse.. they are cowboys..
Get a farrier.

Farriers, beleieve it or not, charge a hell of a lot less, do the same thing better and dont go offo one about X Y and Z

Sorry that was harsh.

Its not a mistake.. youve been told a falsity..
Go with a farrier, they are trained to the same level as a vet in foot ailments. They undrestand foot balence and condition better than barfoot trimmers. They are trained and charge a hell of a lot less

You know what? I dunno lol.

Probably because its 'cool'
I wouldnt.. I did a bit of research nd one of them quoted me '£80 for the initial assesment and trim and then 40 pound for each subsiquent trim'
Never right!

i assure u its not cause i think its "cool"

its cause i was told about a person who does it down here (who works very well with laminitics an difficult ponies like pop

lol ) by a very reliable friend but i must of made a mistake.

Mare, i used to know of a BFT who used to cut wat too short, lame thehorses slightly and sell hoof boots. the same women, had four of her own horses shoeless, and they had to be turned out iin summer on a woodchip surface as the actual ground in the field was too hard!

Sally, a farrier will definatly be better equipt and more knowledgable than a BFT to deal with laminitis, its a serious conditon which needs treating correctly.

Nailed - the very person. why do people use trimmers and not farriers?

[/ QUOTE ]

i think its just another fad...
for people to feel they are treating their horse in a different manner, more expensive manner, therefore it must be superior...

i personally think it's a load of tosh.

well i have to dissagree with you all on bft as im training to b one,and am being trained by my ctyek farrier. there is plenty of proffesional farriers out there who trim horses mine included and make them lame by trimmin too much off!!! just because someone has qualifications dosnt mean they dont make mistakes!!!

Cytek farrier, huh?? That's no real qualification either.........and I've seen a horse's feet butchered by one of these muppets...he nailed the shoe on via the sole...........

muppets u say? cytek farriers have the qualifications of traditional farriers!!! i swear by cytek for my horses but everyone has there own opinions, there r plenty of traditional farriers that have butchered feet. as in any proffession good and bad ppl at whatever job it is they r doin!!

A Cytek qualification is just that. Properly qualified farriers can also be Cytek farriers, but it is possible to be a Cytek farrier only, you can qualify in a few days on a course in the USA. It is of course illegal to shoe a horse in the UK without being a member of the WCF ( having undergone the full training), but that has never appeared to stop them.
I spoke to one of them about this person, and he freely admitted to making similar mistakes (nailing the sole) as he learned how to use them. So that's two I've been in contact with and two I think should be done under welfare grounds.
As I said, muppets. And TBH, that is only the printable version of what I think of them.

as i said everyone has there own opinion i myself have had no problem with cytek shoes on my horse. my farrier is a member of the wcf and yes it is possible in other countries to b a cytek farrier in days but as i said ive known traditional farriers that have butchered horses too, dosnt make them all muppets tho does it!!!

its in the planning but at the mo i have a young baby, and my farrier has offered to teach me to trim due to the majority of horses at my yard being barefoot.its somethin i want to learn and i believe in my farrier as my boys feet have never looked so good and he stays sound now after bein shod where as b4 he wud b lame for days, tho i must admit he is a pansy with his feet at times! lol

I think it's far too dangerous when people start doing their own horses feet. You might be brilliant at it, who knows, but you might also be one of those who think they're brilliant at it and end up crippling horses. I've seen plenty of them, there is, unfortunately, a huge fad for it here in France.
I have 2 horses unshod at the moment, but I wouldn't dream of attempting to do them myself, and I've owned horses for a long time.........
