Hi

Please can someone recommend a really good barefoot trimmer who covers the Somerset / Taunton area. I have had my horses shoes taken off as his feet were in bad condition so wanted to give his feet a rest from shoes.
I have decided to try him bare foot for a while see how we both get on.
I know there are websites listing barefoot trimmers but would feel alot happier if I could contact someone who has been recommended as i have heard so many horror stories.

Thanks in advance

Could recommend you a good farrier who will do a better job and charge you a fraction of the price!

I will ask my EP if she knows anyone working in that area.

oofadoofa- you cant comment on the 'will do a better job' unless you know that a EP does a poor job. And just to show im not on the EP 'bandwagon' I use an EP for the Yearlings and a farrier for the older shod horses- and am very very happy with both their work.

I would stick with your farrier an dget him to trim the horses feel.. Will cost you a hell of a lot less...

Shadow..it snothing to do with being on the EP bandwagon.. most of the time its down to the fact that there not properly qualified but still charge extortionate prices.

Matt sherington (think ive spelt that wrong) is very good as a farrier but apprently best trimmer around my area which is yeovil so he might come out to you if you want his number x

Well you can't do better than founder of the UKNHCP and published barefoot author Nic Barker, who is near Bridgewater. No, she won't be cheap, but you aren't paying for the trim, which is only 10% of barefoot performance, but for the certainty that she will be able to advise you what the rest of the 90% is that you need to do, and hold your hand while you do it.

Nic runs a rehabilitation yard, curing horses that farriers and vets have told their owners to shoot. Check out her site www.rockleyfarm.co.uk and contact her through that.
