Considering barefoot trimming for my TB with poor foot balance and would be interested to hear peoples experiences both good and bad. Would also like to know of any practitioners that could be recommended in the South West, Gloucestershire region. Thanks

I have been using this lady since March this year when the shoes came off my 19 yo lame welsh (. She has been excellent and a great help and it has been fascinating to watch how badly he was landing in front previously (she has a nifty slow mo camera)

We've had to be quite patient and altered some of our care practices but he is now back in medium work (cantering/trips to the beach/light schooling) which was beyond my best expectations given his reaction to conventional treatment methods.

Happy to let you know more by PM if you like, there are more trimmers locally too.

I trust Tracey Brimble in your area.

Bearing in mind you can't trim a healthy hoof onto a horse. You can only grow one.

Without meaning to sound condescending......trimming is the tip of the iceberg as far as 'barefoot' goes.

Good diet and movement are the key ingredients to growing a healthy hoof - and you need to be able to do your part of the process :)

Im in essex so cant help there i use lucy priory she is great but off work ill at the moment!

have just posted my tb's story in new longe my tb has been barefoot for just under 3months hes story is on there he was lame before shoes were removed.he is till sligtly lame without boots and pads (or old pads) but in his pads and boots is now sound fingers crossed he will get better and better as hes feet get better and better!

when his shoes were removed he was really really sore but can now walk on concrete and small stony floor without boots on sound!

I have had great results with my TB his feet have improved heaps and he SJ, events and hunts Bf with no issues in wet / hard going.

Its worth a try you can always put shoes back on if its not for you.

Thanks everyone, I think I will give it a go, at this stage there is nothing to lose. Actually having trouble getting hold of someone that can come and do my boy. Has anyone used Tim Mockford before?
