Mine get linseed but i want the hoof oil shine for a show tomorrow, well actually im not that bothered its my mam thinks he should have hoof oiled feet, ive told her its against the barefoot code of conduct!
When i was kid my dad gave me a bottle of linseed oil for my pony and said just use this luv its wht hoof oil is made from anyway lol
And point is i used it few times a week prob and she had the best looking hooves ever ! I know nowadays people wont believe it but i do feel it contributed to their good strong condition it wasnt just superficial !
And olive oil or veg oil is fine some people always use those for shows !
I strongly believe that any mineral oil has an adverse effect on the feet, due to the slow evaporation leaving mineral deposits on the wall and periople causing them to dry out and crack.
The only thing worth putting on a horses foot is a brush and water.
Why do we think that great feet dont look good left as they are?
If you feel it is time that the extremities of your mode of transport should be black and shinny time to get a Porsche !
Just in case anyone is actually idiotic enough to think this is a good idea, waste engine oil is classed as hazardous waste. It contains all sorts of nasties, some of which are carcinogenic.
Sorry weebarney, I was replying to a comment concerning putting old engine oil on hooves, I in fact was trying to be as polite as I could!
I still stand by my recommendation that the only thing worth putting on a horses foot is a brush and water.
Ah ok sorry. I don't think water would shine very long on the hoof for showing etc though, I usually like dry rots posts but I would definitely not use engine oil on my horses!
