Why?

Horses unless sick have perfectly good body regulators and the weather has not been cold as in double figured sub zero temperatures.

More and more horses are uncomfortable because they are over rugged.

You can get heat lamps, I have several but they are used for young chicks hatched in an incubator and not for the horses!

I agree with you 100% It is for a lady down the road from me and she want to know and asked me to ask. Her internet is off. It is for someone in Scotland! My horse lives out 24/7 with no rug on at all and does very well. But my horse is a cob.

as above, there's no reason to, unless the horse is wet after exercise perhaps, and even then there are perfectly good wicking rugs which dry them off and keep them warm.
a horse really wouldn't thank you for heating up the barn!
fwiw i have solarium lights in my stables to dry the horses off. tonight after riding 1 i turned the lights on, it warms 1 side of the stable quite significantly. even though it was below freezing air temperature, the horse didn't choose to stand under the lights...!

Thank you for replying. I am a little scared to use light heaters or any kind of heaters in barns or stables. I will print the answers to give to Julie so she can let her friend know. I have just found out the horses are arabs. I have never owned an arab before only cobs so I dont know if you have to do anything different apart from using rugs.

Arabs are still just horses :)

The breed makes very little difference to the actual husbandry. More important is to consider each horse as an individual really, for a normal, healthy animal give them good food, good blankets and shelter if they choose to use it and they'll be fine.

My arabs live out 24/7, sometimes it's very cold, other times it's just wet and miserable.

I wouldn't use heat lamps unless it was for the very young or the very ill.

Not to criticise & just answer the question. Farm merchants sell infra red lamps which give light & heat. you can also get the ceramic bulbs which just give heat (no light). I use them in the winter for the kennels, quite effective but cheap to run.

Thank you all for replying. I printed all of this off and passed it on. The horse is not to well and needs to be in the stable. She said the vet recommended they get a light and she wanted to know the best place to buy one. I didn't know that the ill was poorly last night and had to be kept in the stable.
Thank you Polldark, she said she never thought of farm merchants! She is going to one today. Thanks again.
