I innocently listed my hardly used Bartl saddle pad and sheepskin girth sleeves on ebay as they are no longer required.
I then receive a message from Ebay saying that they had removed the items as they were fake/counterfeit ! And that my account was going to be suspended as I was selling counterfeit goods.
The person that had reported me was Bartl !
I called Bartl immediately and left a message.
I was contacted by a lady called Amber who has told me that all Bartl products sold in the UK over the last 6 to 8 years are fake.
Bartl have never sold their items directly in the UK only from Germany.
Even if you purchased Bartl products from a reputable retailer they are still fake.
Bartl are reporting unsuspecting people like myself who have Bartl items for sale stating to Ebay that we are selling counterfeit goods !
I paid over £250 for these fake items which were purchased from Robinsons catalogue over 6 years ago.
So if you purchased a Bartl product in the UK it is a fake.
If you have a Bartl product and are concerned call Bartl direct on 08000328450
And also circulate this information in other forums.

That was an over reaction by them wasn't it without asking you first. Why don't they take down the fake ugg boots, designer goods and phone chargers that have caused deaths and everything else that's fake on there. Oh yes because there would be no eBay.

Lets put 2 and 2 together here -

Another very random first post that doesn't quite ring true + a phone number supposedly for Bartl that is actually for an unconnected UK tack shop...
= a completely fabricated story from a rival trying to discredit the competition.

A uk tack shop number listed as a BARTL contact number? Isnt that fraud?
Oddly, the tack shop number listed is the one named on Bartl website as one of the only 2 uk stockists? Isnt that selling which is forbidden on HH Forum???

As for supplies in the UK - my Bartl is genuine and bought in the uk, last summer! Sadly my supplier does not sell them anymore and now uses their own brand, very inferior replacement instead. I had hoped they would have been of the same quality but they were not and very far from it.
I would buy another, but now I know which scammer business to avoid :)

I can assure you thar this post is true and can be verified by ringing or emailing Bartl directly.
I was angry because they could have contacted me first rather than reporting me as a person that sells counterfeit goods.
Ebay have agreed now not to suspend my account which is a relief as I asked Amber from Bartl contacted them directly.
It concerns me that there are still many Bartl items for sale on Ebay..... Are they fake as well ????
There is also a Numnah for sale on Amazon uk is this a fake ?

Below are the emails I have received from Bartl yesterday

FIRST EMAIL

please can you let me know your ebay name so that I can contact them regarding this

Thank you

SECOND EMAIL

I have forwarded your images to Mr Bartl in Germany

I have also spoken to ebay and they will not suspend your account.

There is a number you can call if you would like to verify this with ebay - this is 0800 3586551

If you would like to speak to Mr Bartl himself I can let you have his number in Germany

I do realise how upsetting this is for you. As I said to you husband - the retailers had no idea of the source of their items for the past few years.

Regards Amber

Is the H&H news article posted above also faked by a rival??

Still plenty of Bartl stuff listed on ebay??!!

On googling more information - confused??

Sheepskin saddlery company Bartl rebrands to beat the fakers
numnah.jpg
German sheepskin saddle pad and numnah business Bartl is relaunching itself under a new name — Horse Pad Factory — and has appointed a UK distributor in a battle against fake products.

The family-run company has been increasingly concerned about the number of inferior goods bearing the Bartl trademark being faked by Chinese manufacturers.

Sales manager Hans Jurgen Bartl said: “UK customers were returning items, complaining that they were of poor quality or ill-fitting.

“Further investigations by our quality control team traced these goods and found they were not genuine Bartl products but were in fact copies being made in China.”

Bartl ceased deliveries to the UK in March 2009 because of these concerns.

But now it has taken a major step towards fighting the fakers and re-establishing itself in the UK market.

The company has changed its name to HPF (Horse Pad Factory) and all its products are now being produced under this new name.

They are being manufactured solely in Germany and are of the superior quality that customers have come to trust.

HPF has also appointed a single distributor for its new-label products in the UK. North Yorkshire-based Adala Ltd has been granted sole license to sell the exclusive range of HPF goods.

Adala Ltd director Amber Barnitt said: “This is a big task as the Chinese copies are easily available, especially online.

“Many other international brand names have had the same battle with imitation products — it’s a global problem. But customers can now get in touch with me directly to place orders from HPF that they know will be genuine.”

HPF is celebrating the relaunch of its company name with the arrival of a new, top-quality sheepskin line.

The new items can be seen at www.horsepadfactory-uk.com.

Without getting too into this - it sounds too much like a PR story to me. I'm speculating slightly, but perhaps what actually happened was Bartl (like many other companies) realised there was more money to be made in having products made in China and realised that when customers were coming back and complaining that the quality was poor, they decide to re-brand, create this great PR story to cover their own backs and roll in a new line at the same time! Saving face and generating revenue from some new products!

I struggle to believe that Robinson's 'didn't know' who their suppliers were - they would have been paying invoices to someone! Surely, if a customer buys from a well known website, they send the item back to the website they purchased from and that company then sends back to their supplier? If that's what happens in most cases (and working for a manufacturer this is what happens with our authorised dealers) Bartl wouldn't have been made aware of the situation by customers sending items back?

Whatever the truth, I'm sure German law has a lot to say about it and somebody's libel somewhere.

I had a numnah custom made by Bartl, through Amber and the "official" site. She told me about the fakes at the time, and even said she was talking to Mr Bartl by Skype...... so I presume mine is a Bartl numnah?

HOWEVER, if I were to sell it in ebay, does that mean my account will be suspended too? Amber and Bartl would have no way of knowing what my ebay account ID is. That would make me one furious genuine, direct customer.

Seems weather or not your numnah is genuine, it now has no second hand value, something that I will bear in mind if I were to want to buy a new one.

Maybe Amber could set the record straight?
