Base Layer recommendations

Hi everyone,

I'm looking to purchase a base layer for the cross country phase, I haven't really competed much for the moment so I'm unsure of which brands are the best to withstand the cross country phase!

I'm looking for something breathable, and stretchy, I don't mind paying extra for good quality, but it can't be silly money either.
I'm easy about styles but I would prefer something simple as I would like to get something embroidered on one of the sleeves.

So if you have any recommendations, please let me know!

Thanks for helping out a complete newbie :) !!

I brought myself an Ariat Tri Factor 1/4 sip from Badminton, I think the stall had the wrong price on it as I got it for £39 and not £59 on other stalls, it's white but very lightweight, dries quickly if rained on and cool in the heat. Not sure how easy it will be to embroider onto it and not sure what other colours they come in. I also use cheaper mountain warehouse base layers!

I have the ones from treehouse sporting colours, mine was about £35 including the designs I wanted on the sleeves. I think if you get a plain one from there they're about £20. I have found it good, and I have a lot of friends who've had their longer than me and they're still going strong! They also do an event shirt which looks good, though I haven't seen one in real life and they are more expensive. Also have a cheapy decathlon baselayer which I use when I'm not competing which is also good!

I think the problem will be embroidering onto the baselayer fabric, because I'm not sure how easy it is due to the stretch, most I've seen have printed rather than embroidered designs...
