Hi all. I’m currently using GWF one cup as pony can be fussy and he eats it happily but after three months his mane is still stringy and his hooves no less brittle. Not convinced he’d eat progressive earth. I have tried that before. Any other suggestions for good once a day top ups without too hefty a price tag?

Spillers Lite n Lean, I have two old fat natives on it and they look great, lovely dapples, glossy coats. It’s about £30 a bag but even feeding two it’s not actually expensive as lasts well.

Recommended by The Laminitis Site (independent small charity) as being the most suitable for UK grazing.

Progressive Earth. Mine is so fussy but has never turned this nose up at this - he wouldn't go near a feed with Equimins Advanced Complete in 🤣

I also feel oily herbs which I think have made a big difference.

What about the Dodson and Horrell Equibites?.

Ideal for good doers as You feed a few by hand every day so no need for a bucket feed and they contain a full spec of vits and mins.

I also rate Spillers balancers

I do Equimins AC. His feet grow like mad these days - needs to be done every 4 weeks which has never been the case before though I think putting him on the Cushcare condition has been the true driver.

I did have him on the gwf equilibra and he gained boatloads of weight and looked fab but has molasses and he had a laminitis type episode. We stripped back his feed and the balancer and slowly reintroduced back and he went very foot very quickly again. I also took him off of a feed and his coat went horribly frizzy and bleached. So what you feed makes a huge difference in terms of how the balancer works/doesnt work for the horse.

This has both alfalfa and molasses in it (redmills grocare) so not suitable if the horse cannot have these.
There are very few horses that are genuinely allergic to alfalfa and the molasses amount is minimal. Been feeding it for years to many different horses with no issues
