Just had a phone call.

Looks like this August will be a record month for basset hounds coming in to welfare. Four so far and another two or maybe three over the weekend. Two are under a year old.

I think their cute puppy look could be there down fall I certaibly don't think the purchasers are doing their home work:rolleyes:, I just rehomed 1 yesterday and a charity close to us has just rehomed 1, the worst thing, both have been booked to board with me, along with the bassets already in those households:eek:

Who me or S4ugar?
The answer yes, we both do:D my mam has a rescue center and we rehome all breeds, I think s4ugar may be part of basset welfare (could be wrong though) I think she boards or fosters them, again could be wrong:o

Pity there is no legislation or regulation to make sure this sort of problem is stemmed at source, bet the places they came from, don't want to know? Cheerio, enjoy your pup, even though you're not a suitable home for this breed, thanks for the cash...hello? Hello?

I kennel for Basset Hound Welfare (& a few other breed rescues).

Most come in to rescue because the owners didn't do their homework and were sold a pup that didn't fit their expectations or lifestyle.

Would you rehome to people that work in the day. My mum lost her Bassett about 2 years ago and would like to re home a dog but most rescue centers wontr allow her to, obviously she knows about the bassetts "independent" nature!!

All adoptions are on individual circumstances.
Someone who works must have provision for the dog to be let out sometime during the day but we have no objection to a well designed kennel with run being used when left.

I feel bad now having just got our basset pup!

Though sadly she will be with us for life. We have a half basset who is 10 next month & had her since pup.

The lady I got ours off works for Basset welfare/rescue.

She will also buy the pup back at anystage of it's life, if for some reason you can not have or cope with it. She also fosters for the welfare too.

H has wanted one for the last 5 years seriously & I have been very slow to find him one! Though these were just up the road from me so couldn't hide them any longer!

I/we know all about the basset nature & that is what draws him to them!
We know how belligerent they are!

News on the two coming in today -

One is ten months and in through owners debilitation. No fault of the dog and all sounds genuine. He has a home waiting.

One is 17 months and in because owners can't cope with the idea that their pet needs a little operation to modify his behaviour.
Will get him castrated prior to rehoming.

Do you have a website i can show my mum?

bassets have always been on my mums "to get" list, we've had dackys but never just found the right basset.

would be interested in rehoming a female, even if she was a little bit older (doesnt matter if spayed, we just get on better with bitches)

All boys at the moment but we homed a 3 year old bitch last month.

As with practically all breed rescues we do our best to match dogs with homes and it may take days or months to find the right pairing.

Contact your area representative and declare an interest.
