Bates easy change gullet

I have a bates caprilli saddle and on my new horse even the narrow gullet is to wide for him. I've got an appointment for the saddler to come and see if reflocking will help but wondered if anyone has had this problem and not been able to get the saddle narrow enough?

Is it possible to make the narrow gullet narrower ? Say, put it in vice & squeeze it a bit ?

I don't think so as there are screw holes in specific places and I think changing the angel of the gullet will move these holes
