I'm trying to find a saddle to fit my old TB. He now has a very high wither but is also extremely wide for a TB, i.e. a medium/wide fitting as he has huge shoulders. Does anyone know whether the bates saddles are any good for horses with high withers? Or any other suggestions for a horse this shape? I have tried a thorowgood saddle designed for high withers but it didn't sit right on him. I may end up getting something and using a riser pad with it I think.

Thank you!

Ideal 1350 GP has cut back head and the tree has good angle in rails to a high head with plently of panel - might be worth a try? Was it a GP saddle you were looking for?

I have a Hann x TB 16h2" & he has high withers & broad shoulders & we have used Bates saddles on him without any problem. As he built up his muscle we had to alter the gullet & ended up with a Medium Wide as you mentioned. We've used a GP, Close Contact & Caprilla Dressage on him without any problem.
