After my recent 'departures' from Archie, Im thinking about a change of saddle! Ive currently got a Bates Caprilli Close Contact jumping saddle and as much as I love it the knee rolls are really small and the seat is quite flat wich doenst make me feel too secure! SO, Im thinking of converting back to ye old faithfull Albion K2 jumping saddle. Only trouble is, coz Arch is still quite young and forever changing shape the Bates works well as it has the changable gullet. Any ideas folks?

I had this same problem with a Wintec. I presume your saddle has flexiblocs? The close contact flexiblocs come in two sizes so I bought a set of large ones from Equestrian Clearance Warehouse website, if you ring them up they are very helpful. Maybe this could help as a temporary measure until Archie has stopped changing shape?

LMAO !

Well as you know sky has grown quite big and i need a saddle that i would not fall out off and one that can be adjusted, so saddle company was the way to go, it has good deep seat and you can change the knee blocks too, i feel very secure in it when sky whips round or bucks !

They go one e bay about £200 for second hand, then £35 to get it fitted to the horse, and as the muscle tone, and seasons change i get it re fitted !

Come and slap your bottom in mine !

I've always had and always will have a Fieldhouse Event saddle. But i showjump in it. Normal showjumping saddles are to high in the cantle and whake your back when you jump. This saddle in ideal for all disciplines and i've never had a horse who was unhappy in it and it's very comfy to sit on.

No idea - but my saddler indicated that if a Bates fits, an Albion probably won't - and vice versa? I might have misunderstood her so please correct me if I'm wrong. Ronnie's now in an Albion as the Bates/Wintec shape is too different apparently.

Saddle Company do come very highly recommended!

Doesn't the K2 Jump have a fairly flat seat? I thought jumping saddles had flat seats so you don't catch your bum over a jump? My GP has a deep seat which is great for the bronco moments but prob won't be so great for the jumping! Could you get a deep-seated saddle for every day - then just use your Caprilli for jumping?

The Albion has longer tree points and flatter tree than the Bates which has short points and a "banana" tree!! You can get bigger blocks for the Bates, but TBH big blocks arent the way to go!!

Personally found the Albion too restrictive on my horse....made me less secure!!

Look out for the points on an Albion. Also, they can be quite tight under the stirrup bars so check there if you try any - can make your horse very sore otherwise!
