Hi, one of the girls at the yard has had problems with her gelding rubbing his quarters on the side in her Ascot Bateson. The trailer is only 18 months old and has stiff plastic panels in the side which have rubbed him in transit. She was considering removing the partition and going for single breast bars but some other horsey friends have advised strongly against this saying it will make it unstable etc etc. Has anyone else experienced any rubbing problems with this particular trailer and/or used a single breast bar? Any comments on the pros and cons etc. Many thanks in advance.

Had mine for about 8 months. Travelled plenty of horses in it without a problem..... Is he itching? Do you know how he's doing it?

I wouldn't have thought a single bar would be a problem. Plenty of people do it....

I had a Deauville & that has the same panels down th sides. I never had any problem with horse rubbing himself. I never used a single breast bar but I know several that have. These people have not experienced any instability with the towing. If there was a doubt then Bateson wouldn't sell the single bar. I think the 'friends' advising her not to use a single bar are offering ill thought out advice.

I have no idea why the horse would be rubbed, are you sure it's the trailer rubbing the horse or is it the horse rubbing the trailer....there is a difference.

I have a Bateson, no problems, I would think the cause may be the horse having the opportunity to rub on something solid, lice, worms, sweetitch, ticks???

I have a Bateson Ascot, and I have used single breast & breeching bars for travelling mares & foals.

I've never had the trailer rub a horse - I've had a horse set to rubbing itself on the trailer!!!! Using the full width bars doesn't cause any instability - the trailer is very wide, and the horses tend to position themselves in the best place and stay there.
