Hi all,

I'm a newbie here so go gently. Just a bit of background before I pick your brains.

I've had ponies for the last 20 years (they had homes for life so hence not ridden in the last 5 years much just hacking). I sadly lost one of my veteran's last year very peacefully in the field and decided that now I had the space I would do what I always promised and get ridding again.

So as fate would have it a 17hh ISH 12yr old gelding out of Cavalier Royale appeared in my life. Not only has he perked up my remaining veteran but he's made me pull my socks up too. He's talented but can be a little difficult if the mood takes him, but boy is he handsome and he's coming to realise i have a sticky bum and a determined attitude.

I have them both on private land near Bitton and really want to get him trying lots of things (he's done BE etc before) but I'm a little isolated where I am. My sister has said she'd like to start hacking again occasionally and the veteran seems up for it so i'm going to start getting them both in action asap. They had the winter off due to bad weather and dark nights.

So........Bath Riding Club seems to be near me and they hold training sessions at The Meadows (which i can hack to). I'm just looking to find out what peoples experiences of Riding Clubs are, good, bad or ugly???

I'm pretty bubbly and chatty so going alone doesn't bother me, but since your all here and seem to be dishing out pretty good advice on a regular basis i thought i ask.

Slice of cake and maybe a sneaky sugary tea for all that made it this far :D

Do you have transport. If so Kings Leaze is a nice club with lots of events around the Badminton area and sometimes at Leyland Court. Not too pressured - they have weekday and weekend events.

Only been to Bath RC events so not sure what the folks are like.

There's also Severn Vale who hold lots of things at Leyland Court.

I would suggest nipping along to BRC a few times on foot before you commit yourself. I get the impression that you either get on or you dont!

thanks, that sounds like a good idea. Hadn't actually of going along on foot first before jumping headlong into membership and hoping for the best :)

I'm at The Meadows, but am a member of Severn Vale (after much pressure from a friend), I have been surprised how much I have enjoyed the few things I have done with the RC so far, would certainly say give it a go and see how you get on :)

I have snuck over and watched a bit of Bath RC...the few I have met have been a lovely bunch but thus far I think Severn Vale match my horses ability more closely than Bath do.

;)

I'm also in Severn Vale, and organise the rally programme. We use The Meadows, as well as various venues that side of Bristol. I try to make sure I vary where rallies are so it's easier for those with limited transport. We use Leyland Court for most of our shows.

Thanks guys. I'll take a look at Severn Vale too then. No transport at the moment although I'm happy to hire a box if and when needed. Obviously locally is better. Always heard great reports about The Meadows too!
