Bathing Horses

I use a citronelle horse shampoo from decathlon. Although dont follow instructions as how much to use to how much water etc. I just shower him like when I wash my hair if that makes sense. Anyway he seems to love water and really enjoys his showers!!

I use a mixture and have just come back from giving him a full show washing, which involves:

1. Tesco shampoo on feather and tail
2. Diamond White shampoo on feather, tail and mane
3. Mix of equine blue, tresemme, vanish and ariel excel gel on feather and tail
4. Tresemme for body and mane
5. Tesco condition on feather, mane and tail

No wonder if takes me hours to get him ready lol!!!

NAF Tea tree, my horse has got sensitive skin and reacts to a lot of other stuff.

I don't really bath him very often but shampoo his legs every week or so through the winter with this, he hasn't had mud fever since I started this routine.

NAF tea tree on his body - another sensitive little flower! Morrisons anti dandruff shampoo on his mane and tail as it makes it really glossy, any cheap condiitoner to comb through his tail as it's really thick, then Canter Mane & Tail to finish off. Like any 8 year old boy he's not fond of a bath though!

I use baby bath on my boy when I bath him. Does the trick nicely even though he's dapple grey. My friend and I made the mistake once of bathing our horses in baby shampoo (so it wouldn't sting their eyes! lol). We decided to ride them back up to the field bareback, gave my friend a leg up onto her horse, and she nearly flew straight over the other side! They were so silky and shiny, that we had a job staying on! We were sliding everywhere! :D

I like to use baby shampoo, i guess it is less likely to affect sensitive skin and i'm not paying 10 quid a bottle for horse stuff when i don't show etc. I do 'splash out' on coat shine spray, which doubles as mane and tail conditioner for after the bath though. The rest of the time Baby oil does the trick.
