Poppy's mane is very scurfy, bought general shampoo to wash that and tail with, her coat is dusty, question is, would I do more harm than good to give her a good shampoo - she lives out 24/7, NFxWelshD, or just continue to give daily brush.

If I were to wash her, buckets of warm water or hose pipe? Sorry for ignorant questions!

Also would it be wrong to trim her mane and ends of tail - she is a bit shaggy.

Defo warm water, rinse with hose, couple of rugs/coolers straight on so she doesn't catch a cold. I use a shower scrunchy thing, I thought well it makes shower gel lather up and it works a treat !

I would actually just add oil to her feed to produce a beautiful, scurff free coat - rather than bath her in her winter woolies.

If she lives out 24/7 and I'm taking due to her winter woollies she's either gone unrugged or you are now planning to keep her naked, then bathing or over grooming her too much will strip the natural oils out of her coat therefore wont have the protection against the varied weather.

Instead I'd look at her diet, improve her coat from within, they all look scraggy this time of year, but once summer coat comes through and you supplement her diet to improve her bloom you'll see a difference very shortly.

You could just wash her mane and tail and then use spray for example Lincoln Total Groom, will give a shine and repells dust and makes the mud easier to brush off. :)
