would you bath your horse in this weather, although the vet as advised me to, as she is very itchy.
my main concern is that i only have cold water on the yard.
personally i think it is too cold, but she would probally benefit from the bath.
i don't know what to do

Do you have a kettle so you can mix in hot water with the cold or a water carrier to bring hot water from home?
The only thing is make sure you use plenty of cold water mixed in so it is not too hot.
Also just wash the necessary areas, don't go overboard and leave a rug on the bits your aren't cleaning.

Could you take a few thermos flasks of hot water to the yard with you, or a kettle, and boil a few loads to get some warm water?
Then I would get the bathing over with as quickly as possible, put a thick cooler on the horse and his stable rugs over the top to get him warm, and leave him in until he's dry with some hay to munch on.

yes i think i will take some flasks of water with me,as i feel she would really benefit from it. it's just that it is soooo cold.
can't use a kettle as we don't have a power point

Make sure you bath her in a draught free area. I would bath her front end first and cover her quarters with a wicking rug and then when bathing her quarters put the wicking rug over her front half. You can also get rinseless shampoos which would speed things up.

I did my horse today, was about 5oC,

I put a medium weight on him with cotton lining, folded it back and did his rear end - washed, rinsed, sweat scraped, and towel dried. Then put rug back over back end. The folded back the front and did the front. Put rug on properly, once back end and front end done. Then did neck and face. Once completely clean, I took that rug off and put thermatex on, then when that was damp put on heavy fleece with 450 grm rug on top whilst i clipped his legs and hogged him.

we used a few towels and a multitude of various rugs that came off as soon so they were damp.

Also fed him hay the whole time, and gave him a warm high fiber feed this evening.
