Does anyone have any recommendations? I'm getting a bit lost in a sea of tech. They all seem to have solar panels, which won't work for my setup. I would love something with a simple rechargeable battery.

i have a reolink go pt plus, rather than taking it down to charge i just swap out portable power banks and it uses a sim card!
One of the girls at the farm uses one and it's brilliant! I have cheap WiFi ones from Amazon, not sure if they'd run off a power bank though!

I have reolink with solar panel, the lead to the solar panel might be long enough for camera to be above doorway and solar panel in sun, the camera swivels 360 degrees and you can listen to horse and talk to them lol. I use a smarty SIM card which is v cheap per month. Got ours from Amazon a few years ago.

The Reolink Go would do the job- they have an internal battery that is easy to recharge
Second this, you can buy spare batteries, so you never lose camera cover. They are also amazingly tough, I've dropped mine several times, (once from up a ladder onto concrete ), and it's been perfectly OK. Reolink Support are excellent, if you do run into issues too.

i have an 02 sim that costs £10 a month, but there’s definitely cheaper - service is dodgy in the stables so i went with a network that i know works😂
Thanks for replying. How does the data usage work? So the camera is constantly recording but you only use data when you look at it??

You can set it up to suit you- mine only use data when you go on to the app to view live. You can also set up alerts for motion or just get it to record onto a memory card. I have a data plan which is £2.50 a month for 5GB which is enough for my usage. Or you can have it on a PAYG

I have a Xega, with a solar panel (you can charge it up though) with a 4G sim card. I'm still on the fist free month but then will switch to a lebarra sim card for £3.99/month. So far so good and gives me piece of mind when I can only get to the boys field once/day.

I have a Reolink Go and a much cheaper Tapo one. The Tapo one has a far superior battery life if you don't want to use a solar panel. My Reolink is plugged into the mains because it only lasts a couple of days on the battery. It is very old though.
The Tapo one is here, although they do other ones as well.

My reolink only runs out of solar power in mid winter if few dark weeks. Think I pay £6 with smarty a month as no WiFi, don't ever use all my data and if you don't use it think it gets carried over to next month. If you set it to motion alert it will use a lot of pointing at the horse as it will keep recording. I use it to check on them rather than record.

Thanks all, I can't put up a solar panel so that option really is out for me - and as I've said my brain is slow when it comes to tech. I really appreciate your tips and links - that's a lot to go through.

I've also found this one on amazon, which looks small and unobtrusive.

Weirdly the video I'm watching now has a promo for the riolinks. You get 5% off by entering Tina5, which every little helps I guess? 😆

The solar panel is less than say the size of a Kindle/ipad, you really wouldnt notice it, and super easy to put up, you literally put a couple of screws in, and it plugs into the camera.
ETA check the IP rating of the amazon camera, make sure it's waterproof!

I do get it's small, honestly I do, but I cannot put up a solar panel with where I am on this yard. I have said this from the outset.
