Hi all, I want to get a proper battery charger for my lorry but there seems to be a lot out there so any advice would be appreciated! I have 2x12v batts so 24v required and I have mains power available from the stable barn to hook up to the mains power but I have no idea about Amps etc.

Any advice would be appreciated!

I think you need to charge them separately! One at a time or buy two 12v chargers. The amps effectively determines how fast it charges - slow charging is better for the battery, fast charging is better for that "need to get to the show" emergency.

Charging is very straightforward - you just attach leads to terminals and turn it on until the dial says full; but the thing that always scares the life out of me is getting the batteries on and off the lorry....
With some lorries it is possible to charge the batteries whilst they're still on the wagon. I've never had one of those.
 
Thanks for the advice guys :-) I’ve charged them with two borrowed 12v before and my mechanic has done it with a 24v charger across the two and neither time have we had to take the batteries offf the lorry fortunately. I just thought one 24v charger was easier. Regarding the amps then what would I look for? 20Amp? 30? Thanks again x

The only trouble is having 2 12 v is you have to charge each one up if they go flat, same with jump starting - I struggled for years with my old lorry, crawling underneath to clip the charges on - a real PITA




This new lorry I decided to have an electric hook up - best thing I would have done, caravan lead plugs into the hook up straight to the mains, easy peazy. That is what I would do in the long term as it becomes a pain to charge the two batteries, also it is another selling point as well and more desirable to purchasers who travel a lot.

I had my mechanic connect all the cables and wiring to enable this, but it is a one off payment
